The following is my confession on angels. It is not a complete doctrine on this topic! I finished writing this and thought, “Wow, look at all that Scripture I never found a way to fit into my confession… oh well, I got the core of the biblical data.”

‘Angelic Beings’ is a fascinating topic, however… it is not really that important to Christian theology. The cultural fascination with angels (and thereby demons) demands Christians have a proper doctrine regarding them. Aside from that, I must agree with Dr. Grinnell of GRTS: “Angels are really just the background characters of the movie.”

I believe angels are spiritual beings created by God.[1]

Angels peacefully and joyfully reside in God’s presence.[2]

Angels unceasingly and genuinely worship God.[3]

Angels instantly and willfully obey God.[4]

Angels have the authority and ability to do whatever God commands of them, unrestricted by physical laws.[5]

I believe angels interact with mankind on God’s command.[6]

Angels deliver God’s messages to mankind.[7]

Angels protect and heal mankind on behalf of God.[8]

Angels are destroyers of mankind on behalf of God.[9]

Angels do not desire the worship of mankind but that mankind would worship God.[10]

I believe angelic destinies are fixated on the person and gospel of Jesus, and they are to serve him for all eternity.[11]

I believe that angels who have rejected God, and God’s will for heaven and creation, are fallen angels, that is, they are demons.[12]

Demons put their wills before God’s and thus are defined by sin and separation from God as spiritual beings.[13]

The most prominent among demons is the Devil, Satan.[14]

Demons interact with God’s creation and mankind in order to cause sin, chaos, and pain. The ultimate triumph of demons is the death of anything God has created.[15]

Demons are powerless against Jesus, and thereby his followers, because death is ultimately defeated by the Christ’s resurrection and the sending of his Spirit.[16]

Demons are destined for eternal punishment, at the return of Christ to be bound by God apart from the righteous.[17]
