This two part posting casts two very different, yet true, realities against each other. They are two sides of the same coin, a paradox of God’s grace. On the first side is mankind and creation as God originally intended them to be. On the other is mankind and creation broken, shattered, and sinful. It’s a terrible mystery how it happened, but I believe both statements to be true.

Confession on Humanity and the World in Perfection

I believe God created the universe good, from nothing.[1]

It was orderly and un-chaotic.[2]

It was just and at peace, with equality or reasonableness.[3]

It was beautiful and full of embryonic potential.[4]

I believe mankind, male and female, was created good by God, for God, to watch and tend the universe according to God’s desires, and to marry and procreate.[5]

Mankind is creative and hardworking, forming tools, art, and beauty.[6]

Mankind enjoys and respects each other, building families, communities, and nations.[7]

Mankind enjoys and respects creation, carrying for the environment, living things, and scientific discovery.[8]

Mankind is a physical being, subject to change and time.[9]

I believe mankind is God’s greatest creation and enjoys a special relationship with God.[10]

Mankind, male and female, shares the image of God.[11]

-Like God, self-aware and reasoning persons in community with each other, each with skills, emotions, and personalities different from one another.[12]

-Like God, in a position of authority and care over lesser things, joining him in his work for creation.[13]

-Like God, sharing in and flourishing by God’s morality, reliant on his goodness for all things.[14]

-Like God, spiritual and thus perpetual, mankind’s very life-force is sustained by God.[15]

Mankind interacts with God through words and deeds.[16]

Mankind loves and worships God.[17]

Mankind obeys God with full-hearted loyalty.[18]

Mankind rests with God and dwells in his presence on the earth.[19]

I believe mankind was created for God’s glory out of the overflow of his love- to joyfully experience it, dutifully expand upon it, and grow in its immeasurable complexity.[20]
